Author's Note: For this battle and all other future battles, I'll be using iHonk/Mike's newest battle system in evaluating weapons. I shall explain this system and the edges later on, but for now this is what you came here for. Let the match begin!
Battle Start: The Untouchables vs The Gestapo
His name was Herschel Klemp, a faithful employee at the Grand Social Club located somewhere in downtown Chicago. Officially he was merely another manager at the high profile restaurant, but everybody knew him for his homemade beers and taste in schnapps. Through the gracious connections of the "made men" of the area, he found himself in a very comfortable position in the estabishment. Tonight he was manning the bar located behind the restaurant front, an area where only the most exclusive of patrons were allowed in. It truly looked to be a night of good company and healthy tips.
"Long time no see." a voice in a heavy German accent called out from the end of the bar. Herschel turned to see a man in a black coat, a newcomer to the club. Four other men in grey coats entered as well, and they appeared to have arrived on more professional terms.
A chill ran down the barkeep's spine, but as with the nature of the business he kept a calm face and a pleasant demeanor. "So, good sir. What Can I get you?"
The man in black smirked and shook his head, "Good sir? Is that how you greet an old colleague, Herr Schmit?"
Beads of sweat dripped from Hershel's brow, but he still maintained his calm facade. "Schmit? There must be a mistake, there's nobody by that name here." Out of the corner of Hershel's eye he could see the patrons of the bar averting their eyes, as if they knew something like this was going to happen.
"Really Herr Schmit," the man in black continued in full German, "You can stop the lies. Herschel Klemp, aka Officer Johann Schmit of the Fuhrer's Cabinet. It's so good to have finally found you." It was at that point the man produced a brass tag with an eagle and swastika emblazened on the front. On the back bore his name: Officer Heinrech Schwartz of the Geheime Staatspolizei. The men in grey approached the bar as patrons turned their attention away to the scene.
The bustling speakeasy was now cold and tense, a defining silence filling the room. Knowing that the jig was up Herschel switched to his native tongue, his voice firm and scathing, "I have nothing to say to any of you. Whatever secrets you think I have I can assure you I know nothing, so please leave me in peace."
"Forgive me, Herr Schmit", the man in black stated, "But we've come too far to return home emptyhanded. The fact is that you abandoned the Reich at our Fuhrer's time of need, and that's something we cannot overlook."
"He was going to commit genocide on our own people!" Schmit pleaded, "Can you not see that he could tear down everything the Fatherland stood for?"
Before the barkeep could blink the four men in grey had completely surrounded him. Two of them grabbed him by his arms as another walked over to a back wall draped with a large tapestry. Behind it was a door that lead to the liquor cellar of the club. "Our informant told us there would be a room where we could have a more...private discussion. I would hate to spoil this place for your guests." The leader of the Germans snapped his fingers as his men took Schmit down the stairs to begin their questioning.
---
Two cars pulled up to the Grand Social Club, collectively carrying five Prohibition agents. As the agents exited their vehicles, their leader Elliot Ness gathered them around the trunk of the cars, which were loaded with serious firepower.
"Are you sure about this Ness?" Agent Stone asked. "We haven't packed this much heat since busting the last place Capone was fronting."
"You heard the tap," Ness replied, "Five mysterious men taking Herschel down into the cellar? I don't like it. He must've done something serious to bring those Krauts in."
"How do you know it's not just another family trying to squeeze into Capone's turf?" Agent Wallace asked as he loaded his gun.
Eliot shook his head, "If they wanted to send a message to Capone they would've shot the place up, none of this cloak-and-dagger stuff."
"Shame. Would've been one less speakeasy to bust," Agent Malone quipped as he picked up a shotgun. "Shouldn't we wait for backup?"
"They're on their way," Eliot answered, "But by the time they get here those Krauts are gonna be long gone." He turned to his team as he cocked his shotgun, "Our job right now is to keep our mystery men here long enough until backup gets here. So let's get going boys." After all the agents properly armed themselves, they approached the entrance to the club and knocked on the door.
---
A loud rapping prompted the bouncer of the backroom to open the door. Eliot Ness flashed his badge as he an the rest of his team barged towards the center of the room. "Federal agents! This is an official investigation!" he declared, "Where's Herschel Klemp?" This entrance was anything but subtle, but it typically got the results he needed. Usually, people were rather cooperative when faced with heavily armed federal agents knocking at their door.
Unfortunately, the two men in grey that were standing at the back of the room were anything BUT usual and cooperative. Upon seeing the Prohibition agents they immediately pulled out their pistols and opened fire. The patrons panicked as the agents returned fire, engulfing the club in a hailstorm of bullets. One of the Germans was hit in the chest by a revolver round and slump lifelessly against the wall, leaving his partner to back into the cellar and slam the door.

Any pretense of this being an easy mission flew out the window as the now terrified patrons poured out the club's exit. As four of the prohibition agents tried futily to control the crowd, Eliot Ness shot the hinges off the door before knocking it down. "Alright boys we're in!" he shouted, signaling his men to follow his lead. In an instant all his men were on the ready and rushing into the secret stash of the speakeasy.
For an underground cellar, the stash below the speakeasy was incredibly roomy and cavernous. Barrels of homebrewed beer and crates of liquored created a maze of obstacles that could easily hide any threats from the agents' view. Groans of pain reached Ness' ears, directing the agents to the source. What they discovered was a scene of unrelenting brutality.
Herschel Klemp, aka Johann Schmit was tied to a chair in the middle of the room, his breathing shallow at best. His legs were broken in several places and there were cigarette burns covering his body. Harsh gashes covered his arms and his beaten face was swollen to the point of being barely recognizable. Whatever kind of questioning this man was under seemed to invoke a wrath not unlike the poor snitches the mob got their hands on, and the agents knew it. "Boys..." Ness said, "Be on your guard. These guys aren't gonna give up without a fight."
A shot rang out as a rifle round slammed into the wall, shocking the Prohibition agents. Agent Wallace whipped his head around to find the shooter, another round hit its mark as he fell back with a resounding thud.

The rest of the team gripped their guns in alert as they all scanned the area for the location of the sniper. As more shots range out the agents quickly dove for cover before finally pinpointing the location of the shooter. Agent Rossman carried a similar rifle aimed for a stacked barrel several yards away and fired. A scream resounded as the shooter dropped from his cover and crashed onto the harsh pavement, stone dead.

The three remaining Gestapo officers popped from their cover and ran deeper into the cellar. One of them wielded an MP40 and sprayed the area for cover fire, preventing Ness' agents from advancing futher. Agent Stone retaliated with his own Tommygun fire. Several seconds of pure automatic gunfire dominated the area until both gunners managed to hit each other directly in the chest, dropping their machine guns in a clatter before collapsing onto the floor.

As the other two German officers disappeared under the cover of the beer barrels, Ness and the rest of his colleagues rose from their positions and cautiously approached their hiding spot. "I'm giving you one last chance," Ness declared. "Surrender now and nobody else has to get shot! Get out and put your hands over your head right now!"
Slowly but surely a man in a black coat wearing a black hat came up with his hands up. The agents approached him as he inched from cover until they were able to subdue him. Ness grabbed the collar of the man's coat and reached into his pocket, producing the badge with the imposing insignia. "Schwartz..." he said, reading the name on the back, "What's your deal with the barkeep?"
Schwartz refused to answer as the other agents searched the area for the last Gestapo officer. Ness shook Schwartz again as he pinned him against the wall, "I'm not going to ask again! What are you doing here?"
Before Ness could interogate any futher, a muffled pop resounded in the area as Agent Rossman clutched a bleeding neck wound. His body started sezuring violently before he collapsed on the floor. If the bullet wound didn't kill him, then the cyanide on the bullet certainly did the job.

This was the distraction Schwartz needed to shove Ness away and disappear in the cover of the liquor crates. Ness gave chase as the last of Schwartz's men scoped him out. He pulled the bolt back of his SDK carbine and prepared to fire. It would've worked too had Agent Malone not spotted him and blown his head away with a shotgun slug to the temple.

As Malone rushed to give Ness some much needed backup, Schwartz reloaded his PPK and opened fire once again. Ness ducked out of the way and dove behind another barrel. Malone wasn't so lucky, recieving a round to the chest and another to his head.

Eliot Ness watched as his last man collapsed in the middle of his stride. He reloaded his revolver and took in a deep breath before he engagued in a shooting match between him and the Gestapo commander. Both sides exchanged fire until finally one of them was struck squarely in the shoulder. Eliot Ness cringed as he dropped his revolver, collapsing onto the ground and practically helpless as Schwartz calmly marched towards his direction.
With a smirk, Schwartz knelt towards Ness' ear and finally answered his question, "My 'game', Herr Ness, is to clean up all the Reich's loose ends." Eliot Ness watched in horror as Schwartz briskly paced towards the beaten body of Herschel Klemp/Johann Schmit and cocked his pistol. With one shot through the skull, he was silenced forever.
Schwartz, satisfied with the result, looked back at Eliot Ness. "Auf Wiederesehen, Herr Agent." He disappeared into the shadows for the final time as Ness' long overdue backup finally arrived.
Ness sat dumbstruck as uniformed officers discovered him in the cellar. Though relieved that he was barely alive, there was no question that this mission had been a complete and utter disaster. With any luck he might be able to stay on the force on desk duty, but after this catastrophe Ness figured his days in the force were over.

The Winner: The Gestapo.
Statistic results will be coming soon....
There's always been that nonsensical question, "Who would win in a fight?" and Spike TV has managed to create a show with a dedicated fanbase that sought to answer these questions, historical accuracy be damned. Makes for good TV, but what about matchups that haven't been addressed or probably never will be addressed? This is one of those impromptu blogs, who seeks to present more matchups in the best way possible. All you DW fans, enjoy.

Very cool! I really enjoyed reading this. Keep up the good work; I look forward to the stats for this and what else you have in store.
ReplyDeleteI liked how you didn't end with Ness being killed, but instead suffering a worse fate; the failure of his mission. I wish that you would have elaborated more about the characters involved in the story, but that's more of a storytelling nitpicking than anything else. Overall it was very well-written.
Great battle, I loved the shock ending of this one. As for your writing, it started off great and you really captured the mood of the speakeasy, but then as the fight went on your details got less and less specific in terms of the battle. I was quite surprised to see the Gestapo win and I'm curious as to your reasoning behind the result- I thought the Untouchables' experience against armed thugs would lead them to victory..... I guess I was wrong.
ReplyDeleteOverall, a excellent first effort and now I want to see who you'll match up next! Please check out my own stuff too if you haven't already.
Hey great battle man, I really want to see the stats for this. I am also surprised the Gestapo won, I admit I kind of thought Ness had it. Perhaps the SDK was better then I thought, I need to read more about it.
ReplyDeleteAnyway I really enjoyed reading this!
Great Battle. I was pulling for the Untouchables, and I still think they would win, but anyways you delivered and thats what counts.
ReplyDeleteHa HA! FAbulous match my man :D You're a credit to us all. AMazing work.
ReplyDeleteI love this fight, and I love whenever anybody actually works a plotline into the firefight. This is everything that I've come to expect from the best of the fandom :D
